World IA Day is accepting nominations through July 6 for the 2020-2021 Board of Directors
The nomination process is designed to identify, encourage, and enlist the active participation of dedicated individuals in the Information Architecture community at the leadership level.
World IA Day is dedicated to empowering leadership. Getting involved is the first step in being a leader.
We are looking for people who have the following characteristics:
has experience of at least one year organizing a World IA Day event
has diversity indicators, e.g. geographic location, language, gender, ethnicity, experience, socioeconomic
has skills, talents, and areas of special expertise
has capacity to contribute time, effort, and/or funds
has passion for furthering the awareness of information architecture
has enthusiasm for advancing the mission of World IA Day the organization
is assertive and positive, conducive to moving forward, getting things done
Members of the WIAD Board are nominated from the community. The board defines the strategic vision and establishes the roadmap with local organizers, committee leads, and the community-at-large.

What is the role and responsibilities of the Board?
Each individual board member is expected to:
know the organization's mission, policies, programs, and needs
read and understand the organization's financial statements
serve as active advocates and ambassadors for World IA Day and engage in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for World IA Day to advance its mission
leverage connections, networks, and resources to develop collective action to fully achieve World IA Day's mission
prepare for, attend, and conscientiously participate in board meetings
participate fully in one or more committees

The director for Education provides direction for education initiatives such as research projects and mentorship. This person helps to coordinate volunteer and internship opportunities and plans for educational partnerships and artifacts that can be shared in the community worldwide.

Regional Directors for World IA Day are instrumental in making sure that our celebration is scalable and each location is getting the attention it needs and deserves. They focus on nurturing new locations in their assigned region and act as a liaison between the local organizers and the global executive producer, answering questions as they arise and directing local organizers to the correct team member for assistance when needed.
In addition to having past experience as local organizers, regional directors are in a closer time-zone proximity to their local organizers.

World IA Day's board of directors is elected by the community organizers. These volunteers play a strategic role in determining the mission and direction of World IA Day, ensuring that the organization continues to operate in support of its mission and driving principles.
World IA Day the organization is a nonprofit volunteer organization with a board of directors that are the ultimate responsible body of the organization. Board members fulfill different roles and functions as needed.
As the leadership body of the organization and to satisfy its fiduciary duties, the board is responsible for:
determining the mission and purposes of the organization
strategic and organizational planning
ensuring strong fiduciary oversight and financial management
fundraising and resource development
approving and monitoring World IA Day's programs, events, and services
enhancing World IA Day's public reputation
assessing its own performance as the governing body of World IA Day, Inc
